A 70 degree November day seems like the best day to send out a parent message about winter weather. Triad’s school calendar has five emergency days built into the calendar in the event that a weather emergency or some other unforeseen circumstance causes the district to cancel school.
As you know, weather can sometimes impact whether or not it is safe to travel to and from school. If we determine that the weather conditions could cause hazardous road conditions, the district will shift to an E-Learning day instead of announcing an “emergency day” when students typically get excited that they get a day off of school.
It is important to know that the district will do its best to inform parents as soon as possible when school is cancelled. Emergency days must be made up by adding a school day to the end of the school calendar whereas E-Learning days count as school attendance days. When an E-Learning day is announced, attendance will be taken; however, there will be procedures in place if students miss school due to special circumstances (i.e. internet availability, childcare issues, sickness, or excused absence).
Caution...not all inclement weather or school cancellation means an E-Learning day will be announced. E-Learning is not an option if staff and students are not equipped with their devices and necessary materials needed to successfully teach and learn from home. There could be other reasons the district would opt to use an Emergency day instead of an E-Learning day.
One benefit of E-Learning is that students and teachers can continue with their weekly plans without interruption. On an E-Learning day, students will follow the schedules below from home. Attendance will be taken by the students’ teachers in the morning at the Kindergarten through 5th grades and it will be taken hourly at the 6th through 12th grades. Students who are absent will be allowed to make-up work missed following the school’s procedures on make-up work outlined in the Student Handbook.
Pre-Kindergarten - 5th Grades
School day begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. The students’ teachers will share the daily schedule using Seesaw. The students will not be expected to be online throughout the entire school day. There will be scheduled live instruction along with time set aside for independent practice. Each teacher will share their schedule after taking attendance at the beginning of the school day so parents and students will understand the expectations for the school day.
6th - 8th Grades (7:45 am-1:40 pm)
TMS teachers and students will be using the schedule that is currently used for our on campus days. Each teacher will have a Google Meet for the time of their class with the expectation that students attend their class just like they would do in school. Students are expected to follow their normal class schedule and login to the Google Meet at the beginning of each period for attendance and the instructions for each of their 5 classes. The students do not need to check in during their study hall period. This will be their lunch and a screen break on an E-Learning Day.
