The current Marine Elementary School was the newest school in the newly formed Triad Community Unit School District #2 in 1957. It was also the culmination of the final efforts of the Marine School District # 36. Triad was formed in 1954 by consolidating the independent Marine, Troy, and St. Jacob school districts into one larger district. Triad started construction on the new Marine Grade School in 1955 after the former Marine District #36 proposed (and voters approved) a bond measure for the new school before consolidation took place. The current school building was built to replace a crowded, 75-year-old two-story building. This older building was located where Marine City Park (Tank Park) now stands. Kindergarten through 8th grade students walked through the doors of the new school building (the current Marine Elementary School) for the first time in August of 1957. Village Board President George Pence presided over the dedication ceremony in November of that year. In his speech, Pence proudly proclaimed that once Triad dedicated the new Marine School and finished construction on the new High School (currently Triad Middle School) Triad would “take its place among the best-equipped districts in the state”. The pride on display during that dedication ceremony 68 years ago this month, is still apparent today in the tremendous support the Marine community provides to their students and staff at Marine Elementary School.
